Jasminum/Jasmine varieties are around 200+ around the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. In India, the varieties are in known by different names like mogra, jaee, jui, madhanban, kamini, kaagda, chameli, sayli, etc. These flowers are used to extract highly priced essential oils which are used for aromatherapy that heals the brain, body and nervous system by relaxing it. Wearing Jasmine gajras by our Indian ladies in their hair has its own medical significance as it was a very natural form of aromatherapy for the brain. Jasmine teas made by stepping few flowers in hot water are quite popular and healing in nature for the brain and nervous system. They are easily propagated by cuttings during monsoon. Most of them bloom from spring to summer but these days there are hybrid varieties that are “baramasi” i.e. bloom round the year.
