Terminalia Catappa – locally known as Indian Almond, sea almond, desi badam is another of the almond variety found largely in tropical countries and now commonly seen everywhere. Used as Avenue tree due to its highly ornamental look because of a very beautiful canopy. It is fast growing edible and highly medicinal tree that tolerates most types of soil conditions including salty sandy seaside and degraded soil. Medicinally, the red as well as green leaves, seeds and bark is used for treatment of vast range of illness including fever, dysentery, jaundice, etc. The almond nuts are highly nutritious and used in the food industry. This common tree is undervalued and underused and has huge potential for commercial exploitation because of its zero care needs and huge yield.
