Tips & Tricks

Michelia Champaca …locally known as sonchampa, sonchafa, sampige, etc is a large evergreen fragrant flowering tree native to India and other tropical areas of the world. Nowadays with grafting and airlayering techniques, the tree comes in dwarf size which can be kept in big 18″ + sized pots and flowers round the year.  Sonchafa season is from spring to winter. Regular manuring can be done during bloom time i.e.,  addition of old cow manure, vermicompost, liquid mustard cake manure, banana peel water, neem cake solution (soil and foliar spray). This gives nourishment and keeps pests away. It goes into dormancy during winter when it can be pruned and manuring to be stopped totally. Watering when top soil dries. Morning sun of 5-6 hours is most suitable. Medicinally flower, seeds and bark used widely for gout, skin issues, aromatherapy for head/body etc. Also used for its strong timber in furniture making. Two colours now seen in white (above)and golden colour.
