Found in Mediterranean regions as well as India. In India, it is grown as food and fiber crop since 5000 years, in northwest, north east and central parts of India. It is high in Omega 3 fatty acids besides various other nutrients and minerals.
They r flowering plants that produce both brown and golden coloured flax seeds. The stems r converted into linen hence it is also called Linseed.
Medicinal uses of flax seed is :
Reduces high cholesterol
Helps weight loss as it makes us less hungry
Reduces blood pressure
Reduces breast pain
Swellings in body esp kidneys
Heals diabetes
Very important for women’s harmonal and reproductive health.
How to eat: powder it fine and eat upto 1 tsp per day immediately by sprinkling it on salads, deserts, bakes, chapathi dough and mixing in water etc. Alternatively, can soak overnight and grind and have as above. Donot store on powdered form as they turn rancid immediately.
