Wood Ash is excellent source of potassium, calcium and many other essential nutrients reqd by plants.
Advantages/uses of Wood Ash in gardening:
a. Keeps garden pests like snails, slugs away if sprinkled around the area
b. Very good for potassium and calcium loving plants like tomato, ash gourd, banana, etc
c. Very good to reduce acidity in soil if added in moderate amounts.
d. Many plants donot like wood ash…so first study and then apply…esp acid soil loving plants like apple, brinjal, potato, sweet potato, sweet corn and most berry varieties.
e. Wood ash can be added to compost heap to neutralise very high acidic conditions and bad odour.
f. Wood Ash is used as a preservative to store seeds as it absorbs moisture, prevents rotting and repels pests attacking the seeds.
Using Wood Ash in the right place, right time and right proportion is important to get maximum benefit of this valuable resource in plantation.
