What fruits, vegetables and grains help reduce cholesterol?
Options: Leafy vegetables, oats, legumes, grains, bhendi, karela, broccoli, avacado, mango, berries of diff types, sweet potatoes, walnut, almond
Ans: While plants primarily donot produce cholesterol, they help in reduction of cholesterol. Generally, cholesterol is a lipid found in most animal products.
Eating high fibre plant related diet will help bind the bile acids thereby bringing lower cholesterol levels. Fruits like apple, berries, avacado, citrus fruits, vegs like all leafy vegetables, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots..beans like beans, lentils, nuts like almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseeds, grains like oats, barley, quinoa …should be part of our daily diet.
When we lower cholesterol in our blood, it improves heart health. So an increase in plant diets as above and reduction in animal products help reduce bad ldl cholesterol and increase hdl cholesterol.
