The present day climate situation
The rainy season in our tropical country used to stretch for four months … generally from June to September. With climate change increasing globally each day, the rainy season has shrunk to just one-two months and even in those months, it rains erratically, heavily and persistently leading to large scale destruction, landslides, floods, etc. Also, whatever rain we get, we have ensured with our foolhardiness, to let the sweet rain water go back through our concretised drains, channels, etc everywhere to mix with salt water of the seas. Ideally, we should collect this precious sweet water as much as possible by soaking it into our soil, storing it in our lakes, ponds, wells, borewells etc by doing rain water recharging/harvesting. Yday, we witnessed hottest day ever recorded in month of August since last four decades!! If this is not enough to shake us out of our stupor, nothing will. Only solution to mitigate all this is tree plantation and its conservation wherever possible admist the unstoppable development and concretisation happening all round us.
Let us take up this activity on a war footing to save ourselves. A country with 1.44 billion and growing each day should be able to achieve wonders. Each of us should take a pledge to plant a tree in our own surroundings and protect the tree till it becomes self sufficient.🌳🌳🌳🌏
