Millingtonia hortensis local names Akash neem, Akash mallige, Indian Jasmine, tree Jasmine, Indian cork tree, etc. A fragrant flowering fast growing ornamental native tree with dropping long stemmed flowers is a must have in every fragrant garden. Even when not in bloom, the leaves similar to neem leaves in shape are a pretty sight. Medicinally the tree parts are used to heal respiratory ailments and ear, nose and throat infections. The wood was used as cork for bottles, etc, but didn’t work out too well…but the name Indian cork tree still continues. We must promote this native tropical fast growing tree in big numbers.
