Pterospermum Acerifolium local names..Kanak Champa, Muchkund, Dinner plate tree, Maple leafed Bayer tree of native origin found mostly in North eastern belts of India and colder tropical regions of the world. A Ornamental Avenue tree, and highly medicinal tree also grown commercially for its wood produces highly fragrant huge flowers that have the size and look of a banana and that bloom in the night. It is used widely in perfume industry. It is called “Kanak” meaning golden colour bcos of its golden coloured flowers and stems and leaves when dry and flower inside the sepals look similar to Champa. In south, it is called “Karnikara” bcos the leaves look like elephant leaves. The flowers and leaves r used in Ayurveda for treating headaches, ulcers, wounds, coughs, colds, bleeding disorders & pain relief. The huge leaves r commonly used as eco friendly dinner plates deriving the name dinner plate tree. The Kanak Champa variety found in South India and Western Ghats is *Pterospermum Reticulatum*.
