Basic guide to home garden
Botanical name: Dracaena Trifasciata
In continuation with our series on easy to grow/care of indoor plants for beginners:
Sensevieria also known as Mother in law’s Tongue or Snake plant originally from Africa now grown all over the world.
There r around 40-50 regular and variegated varieties to checkout from when u buy, for those who donot receive direct sunlight or hv bright indirect @home. This plant is especially for those who donot get sunlight, lazy about watering regularly or are traveling often. It can be placed in bright indirect sunlight or in relatively low light conditions for a stretch of time.
Supposedly a NASA recommended plant, is also purported to generate oxygen round the clock hence considered ideal bedroom plant. Most plants have leaves going upwards (basically to reduce evaporation in deserts) and hence r considered good in various beliefs like fengshui as it means upward energy. They also r seen in miniature rossette shapes and in variegated leaf varieties. A zero maintenance plant that keeps multiplying itself or can be propagated by root splitting or leaf cuttings, is a must hv indoor plant these days. Watering can be done directly to soil (not on leaves) when totally dry soil. Rainy season can avoid watering for long periods indoors.
Soil requirements is well draining and manure requirements is minimal and negligible, maybe twice a year.
