Often repeated question is how to start a home garden and where to buy and choice of the plants. For home gardens plant choice depends on following deciding factors :

a. Sun availability- This is principle deciding factor

b. Space –  If limited space available, vegetable and fruit garden will not be able to give yield round the year to make owner self sustaining for his vegetable and fruit needs.

c. Climate year round. Easier to maintain the garden if year round climate is factored in while selecting plants.

d. Experience of the gardener. ie., Novice to experienced gardener…depending on this, plants need to be selected as some are easy to maintain and some require special skill care.

e. Time that can be dedicated for garden maintenance. Selection of plant depends on this as many want minimum care plants. High maintenance plants are to be selected depending on owner’s expertise.
