Ans: Due to globalisation, commercialisation as well as wish to control agricultural economy, natural, native, open pollinated and heirloom seeds r scarcely available in the market. Many of them hv disappeared without trace or hv become extinct.
These native seeds hv been replaced by manmade Gmo seeds, hybrid seeds, commercial seeds, etc. These seeds come with its own drawbacks and complications as they r poison laced and/or genetically modified. Intention of creating these types of seeds by the international clogomerates was to hv monopoly on seed control and distribution. Also, these seeds needed high levels of fertilizers and pesticides to give the stipulated yield.
An all out effort is being taken to save native/heirloom seeds by opening native seed banks all over and helping its propogation. World’s heirloom seeds r conserved in Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Artic Islands. Rare Forest tree seeds of our ghats r collected, propogated as well as stored to ensure continuity, though many have faced extinction due to mindless defo
